See Your Fare Estimate Before You Book
Our fare calculator works from the Safe Transport Victoria maximum taxi fares, the rate card a Melbourne cab meter runs on. The meter runs one rate at a time: the distance rate while the car is moving, the time rate while it is stuck. Our estimate replays that same structure, so it lands close to the metered fare, although traffic, route changes, waiting time and extras can still move it.

Pay the Meter, or the Fare Agreed by Phone
The estimate is an estimate, and the meter on the day is the final word. If you agreed a fixed fare with us by phone or email, you pay that instead.
Tullamarine Runs, Priced Both Ways
An airport trip is not one price. Going out you may pay a toll. Coming back you pay the airport pickup fee instead, and if your flight lands after ten at night the rate itself changes. We price each leg on its own so a return booking is never just the fare doubled.
Questions We Get Asked Most
How do I book a taxi with Silver Cabs Melbourne?
Type your pickup and drop off into the form on this page and a fare estimate appears before you commit to anything. Fill in your name and number, pick the car you want, and the booking is done. If you would rather talk to someone, call 0449 076 826 any hour of the day.
How much does a Melbourne taxi cost?
Our fare estimates are worked out from the Safe Transport Victoria maximum taxi fares, the rates a Melbourne cab meter runs on. On the day rate a trip starts at a $5.40 flag fall and runs at $2.10 per kilometre, with a $18.00 minimum fare. Evenings, overnight and weekend nights cost more. The fare calculator on this page estimates your actual trip on those figures, and you can call or email for a fixed price.
Is the online fare a fixed price?
No. The fare calculator gives an estimate, shown as a range, based on the driving distance and time of travel, including tolls and the airport fee where they apply. Traffic, route changes, waiting time and extras can change the final fare. If you want a fixed price, call 0449 076 826 or email info@silvercabsmelbourne.com.au and we will agree a fixed fare before you travel.
How much is a taxi to Melbourne Airport?
It depends where you start, so the estimator prices it properly rather than quoting one number for the whole city. Tolls and the $5.26 airport pickup fee are already counted in the estimate, and the fee only applies when the airport is where you are picked up, not where you are dropped off.
Can I get a quote before I travel?
Yes. Call 0449 076 826, email info@silvercabsmelbourne.com.au or use the fixed quote form with your pickup address, date, time and number of passengers, and we will agree a fixed fare with you before you travel rather than leaving it to the meter on the day.
Can I get a taxi with a baby seat?
Yes. A fitted seat is $40.00 on top of the metered fare. Ask when you book and tell us the age of the child so the right seat is fitted before the car arrives, rather than hoping one turns up on the day.
How many people fit in a maxi taxi?
A maxi taxi seats up to 11 people with room for 8 large bags. It is the right call for a group heading to the airport together, since splitting across two sedans usually costs more and arrives at different times.
Do you run 24 hours?
Yes. Cars run day and night, including weekends and public holidays. Late night and early morning trips are charged at the higher evening or weekend rate rather than the day rate, and the estimator applies whichever one matches your pickup time.
